DAMMIT! I told him not to drink from that pond. It was RANK!
Anyone up for a game of Oregon Trail? The classic 80s computer game about an actual historical event and the only one we ever played in elementary school. It was educational, right?
Hardly. It was hilarious. If I remember correctly, we never actually had enough time in the LGI (Large Group Instruction room/computer lab/auxiliary lunch room) to make it through the entire game to Oregon. The teacher would give us a five-minute warning and then things would just get silly. Quick! Get as far as you can in the next five minutes!
What? Jimmy’s lost? How did he get away from the wagon? And how lost do you have to be in order for us to lose three whole days? Kid, you better have been dragged away by a wolf and busted your nut. Amnesia is your only excuse. If only we were allowed to just abandon his ass.
Flooding? Crap. My oxen will drown. Doesn’t matter. We just have to shut it down in a few anyway. May as well go out with a bang. Shit! Drown the whole party! It’s all for sport at this point.
Does anyone know what actually happens once you get to Oregon? Is it just high-fives all around or does something cool happen? If I was hired to update the game to current gaming standards, I’d go ahead and create several versions. You’ve got to please your audience. Oregon Trail: Jersey Shore – Who wouldn’t pay to see an avatar of Snooki hoofing it across North America with a donkey in tow? Oregon Trail: Zombie Road Trip – Move over Donner Trail, there’s a new flesh-eater in town!
Ok so maybe not but if there was an online version I could play on my computer, I’d be all over it. I still want to know what happens at the end!
