I’ve had my iPhone for about a year now. There are two technologies that I don’t quite understand: autocorrect and autofill.
When I first got the phone, friends told me that the more I used certain words, however made-up, the autofill technology would recognize those words over time. Now when I type in “amaz,” an autofill bubble pops up with the word “amazeballs.” Great! That, in itself, is amazeballs.
Most of you know that I walk dogs. What you might not know is that after every walk, my clients get a “report card” via email on how their pup was on the walk. This always includes a poop and pee report. It sounds gross, it’s important that they know this stuff. And anyway, dog walkers can talk candidly about doggy diarrhea without flinching. It’s our job.
Anyway, I type the words “poop” and “pee” enough times a day that any time I type “po” or “pe,” I expect autofill to do at least offer to do the rest. And if I type “piip” or some other close derivative of “poop” or “pee,” I expect autocorrect to recognize that as a nonword and to offer to autocorrect it to “poop.”
Am I asking too much? Because this does not happen. I finally got my phone to recognize fuck and shit as words. Yet poop and pee are what? Too offensive? Too giggle-worthy? I don’t get it.
Insights anyone?
